The other day a news story really got my goat because it showed how people are being deceived into thinking that s~x is all about them and that they can opt out of the it's most obvious consequence...parenthood.
I vented in this post, about men's "reproductive rights." I want to do more than vent, but what? It was on my mind the whole day.
The next morning while reading the daily Psalm & Proverb, God used these verses from Psalm 11 to speak to me:
(Lexical Biblical commentary in blue)
1 In the LORD I take refuge.
How then can you say to me:
I don't take refuge in society, other people's beliefs, or in the wisdom of our leaders. I'm thankful for the safety of our country & for wise leaders, but my refuge is in the Lord.
3 When the foundations are being destroyed,
what can the righteous do ?
The foundation being destroyed is the basic understanding and acceptance that pregnancy is a possible result of sex. Therefore, you should be careful about having sex...so careful that you only have sex with your spouse.
Another foundation would be that if you get pregnant, you have a baby.
I'm sure that throughout history people have ignored and circumvented these as much as possible. Some cultures require that it be kept more secretive, though I'm not sure that is necessarily better. Hiding the sin doesn't make it go away. On the upside of the story, the sin is out there thought it's not being called sin.
David didn't say what foundation he was talking about & I haven't researched it, but I could see the application here. So, what are the righteous to do? Look at the next verse:
4 The LORD is in his holy temple;
the LORD is on his heavenly throne.
He observes the sons of men;
his eyes examine them.
David jumped right to THE foundation of the world.....the Lord is in His holy temple. Note to Lexie: God is still on the throne & in control. He sees what's going on. I don't need to tattle. I don't need to get myself all twisted up about it.
That doesn't mean I need to sit and say nothing. Utilize our cultural outlets (blogs, t-shirts, etc.) & political system (voting) to stand up for the truth, but not at the expense of my primary calling of raising my children.
7 For the LORD is righteous,
he loves justice;
upright men will see his face.
I can't explain it, but these verses remind me to trust God. He's good and just.
So, the next time I think of this I may or may not get wound up, but I will pray.
