One of the advantages of home schooling is the freedom it gives the kids to pursue their interests. My girls interests are pretty evident, but a while back I was asking God to show me something for Gameboy to pursue. When I asked him what he liked, video games was his standard response. Oy! Oh, well, I knew something would come about eventually. Little did I know it would be so soon and right under my nose fingertips.
I was also pondering what skills I could pass on to my children. Cooking? Ummm...no. Sewing? Yeah, right. Rug making? Haha. You get the idea. What about blogging? Though I'm no expert, I know enough about it to teach my kids to use blogs safely. So, off I went to Homeschoolblogger.com to set up blogs for all the kiddos.
Gameboy, took to it right away.
Then, it hit me....like a Reese's Cup. (Two great tastes that tast great together.) My dear friend Rappin Ron' has a blog where he posts his rhymes he's written over the years. Finding time to post that materials is a challenge, so he hadn't updated the blog recently. What if him and Gameboy worked a deal that would benefit them both? Mr. Ron could send Gameboy the material and Gameboy would post it to the blog for a small fee.
Thankfully, Mr. Ron agreed. He's been very generous, going above the per post price we agreed on.
Now, Gameboy goes into MS Word, formats the rhyme and verses, hyperlinks the verses, edits the linebreaks, logs in to Tyepad, cuts & posts the text and saves it as a draft for my approval.
He's also learning Excel and money managment skills via his income.
I'm thankful and thrilled at this opportunity. Take a peek at Ron's Word on the Word and see what my 8 year old has been doing lately.
