These past few days I’ve been enjoying a writers’ workshop* with Anne Lamott. These bits of writing advice helped me write last night:
- Write bad first drafts. I can so do that! (Caution: she uses a much different adjective.)
- Shoot for writing 300 words per day about 5 days per week. After a year of this, making allowances for weekends, holidays & PMS, she says you’ll have enough material for a book. (The amazon editorial review said she said 1000, but I caught 300. I’ll stick w/that.)
- Try to write at a regular time each day.
When I sat down to write last night I kept those things in mind and it helped. Her example of a nine page first draft of a three page article inspired me to simply get my words on the paper to meet my 300 word goal, as long as the words were on topic, they got to stay on the paper. From that, I found some ideas to work with. Woo-hoo.
